The Transilvanian Alps: A tough but very rewarding route strictly along the main ridge of Munții Făgărașului in the southern Carpathians. Just five of us, two tents, eight days on the high ridge. July/August 2010.
Just a few days in the calm(er) surroundings of Lago di Orta in northern Italy, adding two trips to the Alps north of the lake around Valstrona. May/June 2009.
Spending a few days around Easter sightseeing and hiking around Lario, better known als Lago di Como. Easter 2009.
Based in a farm with a view of San Gimignano, we visited not only the Chianti vineyards by Castellina, Radda, Lamole, Volpaia and Panzano, but also the nearby Toscana sites. San Gimignano, Sant’Anna in Camprena (yes, The English Patient fans, yes!), Pienza, Abbazia di Sant’Antimo, Monte Olivieto, Siena, Florence. October 2008.
A week in a rustico in Piano di Peccia, Ticino. Managed a few hikes, short autumn days: Cristallina attempt, Capanna Basòdino, Poncione di Braga, Mognòla, Val Bavona, Soveltra. September/October 2008.
Climbing Sustenhorn via Sustenlimi from Chelenalphütte. A nice and easy glacier tour. Urner Alpen, August 2008.
Climbing Piz Sardona vel Surenstock with a nice party approaching from Calfeisental and based on the Sardonahütte. Cloudy moods. Glarner Alpen, July 2008.
Staying in a fancy adult hotel in Cala Mesquida, we made a few road trips and hikes in the surprisingly remote (by contrast to the beaches?) mountains of Mallorca, especially in Serra Tramuntana, but also in some of the coastal hills. June 2008
Too few days in the Walliser Alpen. After a night in Arolla, we reached Cabane des Dix over Pas de Chèvres and Glacier de Cheilon just in time for a birthday party. Climbed lazily La Luette next day. Turning back to Arolla, the ladies preferred Pas de Chèvres again, while the gentelmen went over Pigne d’Arolla and dropped for a beer in Cabane des Vignettes. August 2007.
Yes I admit, it was just an idea of mine… A short trek in the central and then the remote eastern part of Nízke Tatry in Slovakia, unfortunately still affected through large areas of trees broken by a strong hurricane a few years ago. We have managed, but it was partially very disappointing. Closed the loop in Liptovský Ján. June 2007.
Just two days in the southern Vogesen Mountains in fine company. Parking by Lac d’Alfeld, sleeping in the ferme auberge du Gresson, climbing Ballon d’Alsace and visiting Colmar the next day. May 2007.
