Kōya-san :: Nyonin-michi :: Benten-dake

Tokugawa-ke Reidai is a mausoleum of the Tokugawa Family, where the spirits of two first shoguns of this dynasty, namely Ieyasu (1st) and Hidetada (2nd) are enshrined.

Nyonin-michi is the women pilgrimage trail in the hills surrounding the monastic site of Kōya-san, with only one well-preserved Nyonin-dō hall where female pilgrims could stay and pray. We started at the pass forming the northwest Kōya-san entrance with the massive Otake-Jizō statue, climbed Benten-dake mountain with a shrine on top and left the trail at the main town western entrance with the huge Dai-mon gate. Finished with a lunch in Tsukumo inn.
